Kids Classes
For ages 8–12. A supportive introduction to on-camera acting that builds confidence, listening skills, and authentic presence.

What Happens in a Typical Class
Classes begin with warm-up exercises focused on presence and awareness. Students then work on scenes—sometimes solo, often in pairs or small groups. Each student performs on camera and receives gentle, specific feedback.
The focus is on listening, reacting truthfully, and being comfortable being seen. We work with age-appropriate material and emphasize process over performance.
Auditions & Our Approach
Slate Acting Studio focuses on the foundational skills that support auditions, on-set work, and any on-camera performance. Rather than rehearsing specific audition formats, classes emphasize listening, presence, and authentic response— the same skills casting directors look for in auditions.
We don't train students to "perform for auditions." We train them to listen, respond, and be present—the skills auditions require.

How Scenes Work
Students receive age-appropriate scenes—short dialogues or monologues. We read through together, discuss the situation and characters, then students perform on camera. Feedback focuses on what's working and gentle suggestions for deeper listening or more authentic reactions.
Scenes are rotated so everyone gets a chance to work. The atmosphere is supportive and process-focused—there are no "wrong" choices, only opportunities to explore.
Term Structure
Classes run in terms throughout the year. Each term includes weekly sessions that build on previous work. Students can enroll for a single term or continue across multiple terms to deepen their skills.
New students are welcome to join at the start of any term. Classes are grouped by age and level to ensure appropriate pacing and peer connection.
Parent FAQs
What about attention span?
Classes are structured with movement, variety, and breaks. Students work in short bursts, and the small group size allows for individual pacing. Most students find the on-camera work engaging and stay focused naturally.
What camera setup is needed?
A laptop, tablet, or phone with a camera works fine. Good lighting helps— facing a window or a simple lamp works well. We'll provide setup guidance before the first class.
What should we expect?
Expect a supportive, process-focused environment. Students won't be pressured to perform or memorize. The focus is on building confidence, listening skills, and comfort with being seen. Progress happens gradually and authentically.
