Teen Classes
For ages 13–17. Advanced scene study and on-camera technique. Students develop emotional truth, professional readiness, and authentic performance skills.

What Happens in a Typical Class
Classes begin with presence work and scene preparation. Students dive into more complex material—contemporary scenes, monologues, and on-camera exercises. Each student performs on camera and receives detailed, constructive feedback.
The focus is on emotional truth, listening deeply, and developing professional on-camera skills. We work with material that challenges students while remaining age-appropriate and process-focused.
Auditions & Our Approach
Slate Acting Studio focuses on the foundational skills that support auditions, on-set work, and any on-camera performance. Rather than rehearsing specific audition formats, classes emphasize listening, presence, and authentic response— the same skills casting directors look for in auditions.
We don't train students to "perform for auditions." We train them to listen, respond, and be present—the skills auditions require.
Auditions are not a separate skill set. They are a context where foundational acting skills are tested. Casting directors don't hire "good slates" or "memorized sides." They hire people who listen, respond, feel present and alive, and adjust. That's what we teach.

How Scenes Work
Students work with contemporary scenes from film and television, as well as original material. We analyze the scene together—discussing character objectives, relationships, and emotional beats. Students then perform on camera, receiving feedback that deepens their understanding and performance.
The approach is collaborative and exploratory. Students are encouraged to make strong choices, take risks, and learn from both successes and discoveries. The small group size allows for individualized attention and peer learning.
Term Structure
Classes run in terms throughout the year. Each term builds on previous work, allowing students to deepen their skills progressively. Students can enroll for a single term or continue across multiple terms.
New students are welcome at the start of any term. Classes are grouped by age and level to ensure appropriate pacing and meaningful peer connection.
Parent FAQs
Is this audition-focused?
We don't train students to "perform for auditions." We train them to listen, respond, and be present—the skills auditions require. Rather than drilling sides for speed or simulating casting rooms, we focus on foundational skills: listening, responding truthfully, staying present under pressure, emotional regulation, clarity of communication, and adaptability. These skills transfer to auditions, callbacks, on-set work, and life.
What camera setup is needed?
A laptop with a camera works best, though a tablet or phone can work. Good lighting is important—facing a window or using a simple ring light helps. We'll provide detailed setup guidance before the first class.
What should we expect?
Expect a professional, supportive environment where students are challenged appropriately. Feedback is constructive and specific. Progress happens through consistent practice and exploration. Students develop both technical skills and confidence in their authentic expression.
